Adding a Connection to a Plumbing Fixture

    November 3rd, 2010

This is generally a straight forward procedure, however the trick is how to tie the radius of the connection to the diameter of the fitting.
1-  Start a new plumbing fixture family.
    2-  Start the Extrusion command.
    3-  Draw a circle with a 6″ radius.
    4-  Dimension the circle.
    5-  Select the dimension.
6- With the Dimension selected, click the Label menu [...]

Creating an annotative family in Revit MEP

    January 4th, 2010

3D items don’t mean a thing in any drafting application if they don’t look right schematically in plan. That’s right; we are still dealing with a drafting application here.
The annotation symbol we are going to create is a “connect / disconnect from existing” annotation. It is quite simple in the fact that it looks just [...]

    Custom Keynoting in Revit

    October 17th, 2009

Yeah, Revit does that. Well Revit lets you do that. For the advanced application that Revit is, you would not think that creating a .txt file would control something as “database-centric” as keynotes. But it does. Let me show you how!
    -       The first thing we need to do is create a new word pad file [...]

    Creating an In-Place Family

    September 2nd, 2009

This tutorial is not so much the “how” than it is the “you can”.
Ok, Of course I’m going to tell you how, but this leads us to the specific topic in terms of the fact that any project is going to require some kind of special item (or many special items) that are specific to that design which will never be repeated in a hundred years. We still need to model these items however, this is where the in-place family comes in handy. Creating the “one-off” element you never want to see again.

Adding power circuits to a panelboard in Revit MEP 2010

    July 15th, 2009

Now that you are using Revit, you may be finding that it is just as much of an engineering application as it is a drafting application. Yes, it has its shortcomings in BOTH categories, but this feature is a tried and true aspect of Revit MEP that works quite well. That is, adding power circuits [...]

    Creating curved top curtain walls

    July 10th, 2009

Creating a curtain wall in Revit, as we know, is pretty east right?

    Welcome to BIMnation!

    May 29th, 2009

Really? Another BIM website? Don’t we have enough of them already? This is the question you may be asking yourself. Sure there are a few large BIM sites out there, however, the BIMnation is not one of them…BIMnation features Autodesk authorized developers, authors, and trainers who develop the content for this site. Also, our writers and columnists are nationally recognized speakers who actually use the products.
